Today, when I had my lunch, I got a shocking news. It seems Harry Potter 7 Part 2 won’t be at any theater/cinema tomorrow. As one of Harry Potter fans, I’m really sad when I hear it. And no one knows what destiny will come…

From the news (links: here and here), the only one Hollywood-based film importer, that is Omega Film, had trouble again. Yesterday, they said they got the permission to import Harry Potter 7 Part 2 and hopefully, it will be in theater/cinema as per 15th July. But now, their permission had been postponed until… – not mentioned in the news. So, I can summarize here, Harry Potter 7 Part 2 likely will be delayed or canceled :( and not just Harry Potter, but other Hollywood-based film too.

Just hope the trouble will be cleared as soon as possible.

UPDATE (15th July 2011 09:00 AM (GMT+07)): It seems Harry Potter 7 Part 2 will be delayed (thanks God). You can read the news here.

Charity Click for Japan

I’ve just got this from KasKus, today, and I think I’ll make a useful post in my blog here to help everyone who wants to help Japan but don’t know where to start. It’s kind of an advertising but every click you do will be sent to Japan (seems like a Google AdSense but for charity). And I hope WordPress will not suspend my blog because of this (hope I’m not crossing the WordPress’ T&C). So, long story short, here’s the link :D

Researcher from LIPI, Destario Metusala, found a new orchid species at Kalimantan, named Dendrobium Kelamense D.Metusala, P.O’Byrne and J.J.Wood.

The orchid is from genus Dendrobium section Calcarifera which have its center population in West Indonesia, especially in Sumatra island. And from 29 known species, 20 of them are endemic.

Rio stated that the place where him and his researcher colleagues found the orchid will be kept in secret for conservation purposes. He stated in his email to Media Indonesia: “Because when a new species came out, usually it will be followed by a big exploitation of the orchid in its natural habitat”. His researcher colleagues are P. O’Byrne, an orchid expert from Singapore, and the other one, J.J. Wood, comes from Kew Herbarium, United Kingdom.

This new species had been published in Malesian Orchid Journal, an international journal, in March 2010 edition. This orchid growed in cluster and epiphytic, and each mature stem have long vary between 60 cm to 110 cm.

The inflorescent grow from near-tip of the stem and each one have long vary between 5 cm to 8.5 cm with 12 buds of the flower. Each perfectly blossom flower have height around 2 cm and width 3 cm to 3.5 cm. Its petal and sepal have bright-and-glossy yellow colour with maroon colour parallel spot pattern.

Other orchid species which had similar morphology with this orchid is Dendrobium panduriferum. The difference between both can be seen from its labellum. Dendrobium kelamense‘s labellum have U-shaped calus in between side lobus and the edge of middle lobus is nearly jaggy.

According to Rio, this orchid, Dendrobium kelamense, have big potential for mass cultivation.

Reporter (read: Woman) Obsession?

This morning, like other particular days, I opened a news website such as Kompas, Detik, or Antara, just want to know what had happened these days. Suddenly, my eyes starred to this news this morning: David Beckham’s Crotch Being Grabbed by Italian Reporter… LOL, how this could happen? Here’s the live video:

So, why does the reporter, Elena Di Cioccio, grabbed David’s crotch? Here’s the snapshot of the news (source from here):

“Off the pitch we have seen fascinating photographs of David Beckham in his underpants and seemingly very well endowed and even his wife says that he is well equipped and calls him Golden Balls,” Di Cioccio said. “Well the image may have slipped slightly as he has been replaced in the Armani campaign by a younger footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, but we wanted to find out if he was as well endowed as the pictures suggest or if they were touched up.”

So, it seemed that she’s really obsessed and curious to know how big “it” is. LOL… and as seen in the video above, she really prepared the action very well, even she used yellow gloves to grab David’s… LOL :D I don’t know whether David Beckham was angry or not, but I think he’s quite mad with that “accident” and surely not happy as seen his face in the video above.

Once again, LOLLLLLL :D

Agatha Christie

I know this news is quite old, but I’ve just hear it now. Agatha Christie lost stories were found in the attic of her daughter house on 2004 and the book itself was published in Britain on September 2009. The good news for American people, the story called “Incident of the Dog’s Ball” will be published soon by the Strand Magazine.

Here’s the snapshot of the news from Reuters:

The Strand Magazine said it will publish the 5,000-word story called the Incident of the Dog’s Ball, which was found in the attic of the author’s daughter in 2004.

“It’s a typical Agatha Christie whodunnit,” Andrew Gulli, the editor of the Strand, said in a telephone interview, adding that it contains lots of surprises.

Well… I just hope that the story will be published in Indonesia too somehow. I can’t wait to see it happened.

Researcher from LIPI, named Destario Metusala, announced today that he and his partner from Singapore, Peter O’Byrne, found new orchid species called Dipodium brevilabium, D. Metusala & P. O’Byrne.

According to his email to ANTARA on Tuesday, 8th September 2009, they have been researching since the beginning of 2008. This journal is a proof that Indonesia still have many unknown bio-diversity. The journal itself was published in International Orchid Review (page 117, fig. page 151-153, source here), United Kingdom, September 2009 edition.

Dipodium sp have 25 species spread from Indo-China to Melanesia and Australia and West Pacific archipelago. This genus is hard to be identified by many taxonomist because it has same flower appearance with its labellum structure almost consistent. Like any other Dipodium sp in Indonesia, this orchid, Dipodium brevilabium, also have an appearance like Pandan plant (Pandanus amaryllifolius). That’s why people always called  it Pandan orchid.

The orchid can come with 35 buds inflorescence and lasted for 15-20 days. Its flower have diameter 3.3-3.7 cm and yellow as its base color with red-to-brown stripes. Dipodium brevilabium have unique morphology character which can be differentiated from other Dipodium orchids, that is, its short labellum with rounded middle lobus. The name “brevilabium” itself came from its labellum appearance.

This orchid is quite adaptive and can be cultivated from 200-700 m from sea level with 50%-70% brightness level. The humidity of its media and the air circulation are the most important things to be noted when we cultivated it, because when we lack of both criteria, fungi can come and kill the plant with rotted growing point.

Dipodium brevilabium orchid might have limited distribution to Indonesia only.

Earthquake, Face, and Smiling

According to Kompas and DetikNews, another earthquake occurred this morning at 07:52 WIB with magnitude 5.9 SR and the epicenter located 15 km deep in the sea, north west Ujung Kulon, Banten. It seems that this one is an after shock, following the two days ago earthquake. The shock itself felt in Lampung but not in Jakarta :( Hope there will be no earthquake anymore.

Many of us felt that the earthquake these days is a sign from God to remind us to behave properly. And it’s just not about the earthquake too. Like the one happened on Nordaustlandet in Svalbard archipelago, Norway (you can see the news here and here), a glacier in the melting ice wall seems like a crying face. See… many of us believe that the mother of nature was crying too. It’s just not about the climate changed but the human itself. We must behave properly on these bad days and use the resources God gave properly too. Do you agree with me?

Tears of Mother Nature (courtesy of Gossip Rocks)

And the more important thing is we must face every problem with smile. Yeah… true smile. And today, still related with the smile, Kompas have a news that the smile Indonesian gave to tourist and based on Malaysian tourist experiences, the smile seemed like a fake smile! OMG… another sensitive issue. Well, it may be true that we, Indonesian, give many “fake smile” to Malaysian tourist on these days because, as you all know, Malaysia and Indonesia these days have a “hot-and-bad” relationship. At one side, Malaysian “often” claim Indonesia cultures (i.e. Batik, Angklung, etc) and properties (i.e. Jemur Island, etc) and at the other side, Indonesian feel disappointed and angry with Malaysian’s claims. So, I think it’s still common-sense for people who face this problem to give a fake smile to the “enemy”, don’t you?

But… okay… let settle this with cold head and true smile. IMHO, we as Indonesian have a mistake and Malaysian also have a mistake. The mistakes are: Indonesian people seems very easy to be provocating with the Malaysian issue and still many of us don’t know well our own cultures. On the other side, Malaysian people are often provocating Indonesian people anger and seemed that they have careless control on tourism and cultures issue on their hands.

As the host of tourism, we shouldn’t give any differentiation for Malaysian tourist since they pay for the trip (like many other tourist, domestically and internationally) except that we don’t have any relationship with them (of course not, the embassy itself located in Jakarta) or the nation itself is the source for terrorism (like USA did to a few countries). Why do we give them that? I think it’s more comfortable to give them a true smile and good hospitality so they know that we, Indonesian people, are good people. And also, we must know well and preserve our own cultures and properties so foreign people, including Malaysian, know that the cultures and properties are our own. In fact, there are a lot of things that we can do to preserve our own, right? Share your thoughts here if you have, readers :)
